Smartphone brands have been able to tap new growth opportunities through the advent of Internet of Things (IoT). They have begun tapping into newer opportunities with a variety of connected tech products.
They are now competing with traditional tech brands. CyberMedia Research (CMR), a market research agency, conducted the ‘CMR Connected Consumer Survey 2021′ to understand smartphone brands’ performance in India’s extended market.
The survey, which surveyed 2,010 Indian consumers in the top 8 cities, provided some interesting insights.
According to the report, connected consumers have high expectations for consumer tech products and appliances. These include affordability (89%), ease-of use (96%), and innovative design aesthetics (88%). Consumers are using Smart Bands (29%), Tablets (31%), and Laptops (39%).

Research clearly demonstrated that smartphone tech companies are gaining trust, preference and recommendation from consumers. Smartphone brands have a high level of brand loyalty and trust among consumers, which is translating into higher adoption of their new tech products.

According to the report, Xiaomi and Samsung are leading brands in brand awareness at 96% each followed by Realme (91%). The report stated that Realme (67%) is the most well-known brand, followed by Xiaomi (62%), and Samsung (50%).
Apple topped the charts at 96% user satisfaction, followed by Samsung with 94%.
Realme is the most recommended brand (52%) followed by Xiaomi (48%), and Samsung (44%).

Realme had 76% brand affinity, the highest overall affinity score. This is calculated from brand awareness, consideration and satisfaction. With 74%, Xiaomi was second and Samsung third with 71%.
Realme was again the top smartphone brand in satisfaction (96%), followed closely by Samsung (95%).
The report stated that three out of four smartphone owners had looked at Lenovo before finalising their purchase.
The tablet market saw the most brand awareness for Samsung (94%), Apple (87%), and Apple (87%). When choosing a tablet, the most important factors for users are battery (86%) and processor (94%).

Boat (32%), followed by Samsung (26%), is the most recommended brand among wireless earphones brands. Realme is the leader in satisfaction (98%) and awareness (74%). The top-most consumer concern is battery life (94%).
Bluetooth Speakers had Boat (98%) as the highest level of satisfaction, followed closely by Philips (96%). This segment is characterised by its portability (90%) as well as good audio quality (90%), which are the main drivers of purchase.
The most well-known brand in the smart TV category was LG (92%), followed closely by Samsung (86%). Consumers are most interested in a fast user interface (86%), and voice control (86%).
In terms of brand satisfaction, Dyson (96%) is followed by Philips (88%). In the electric toothbrush category, Philips was also the most recommended brand (43%). Two out of five electric toothbrush owners seem to recommend it to their peers. Philips leads in awareness (73%), consideration (36%), and Samsung (96%) is the top-ranking brand for satisfaction.
More than 25 consumer tech appliances and products were included in the survey, which was conducted by 16 brands. The survey was done between late-October and mid-November 2021.
